Bag O' Musky GIFs
Alright, lets kick this week's newsletter off with a big ole bag of musky GIFs 🔥
First, we have an exciting boatside scene from Angling Anarchy:
But that's not even the best part of the video.....
A few moments later, the net man took this interaction from a near disaster, to a super clutch net-flip adjustment:
Next up, we have a cool paired-up musky clip posted by Twin Cities Muskies Inc. the first week of May on Tonka:
Last up, we have a couple Great Lakes muskies that unfortunately didn't make it, found dead by @greatlakes_finesse.
Not sure exactly what happened here, but sometimes it's not just one fish trying to bite off more than it can chew. Sometimes, it's two 'skies trying to eat the same baitfish at the same time, and ending up in a precarious situation.
Either way, it sucks to see...
Boiling Rubber
Have you ever tried boiling your rubber baits??
That's an old trick folks have been doing for years and years.
Musky guide Chase Gibson demonstrates in this video:
In the video, he boils up a Medussa, and talks about how the process will #1 soften the plastic and #2 remove some of the memory from being jammed in a tackle box.
You can do this with Dussas, Bull Dawgs, swimbaits, etc. Basically anything made of rubber.
Even the big bait bass guys caught on to this little trick, boiling the old Huddleston swimbaits back in the day.
Something to think about!
The only negative Chase mentioned in the video is the softer tails create less resistance in the water, so if you want your baits to run shallower, probably leave 'em alone!
Btw, we had Chase as a speaker for our PRO members earlier this year, and he shared some great info. If you're a member and haven't watched it yet, make sure to check it out!
Yertle the Turtle
Musky fishing can be a serious grinder and nothing's worse than finally hooking up and finding out it's a dang turtle!
Lookit this one from Brandon Stump, hooked right on the mitt:
Unhooking these buggers is no easy task when they'd happily nip your finger off during the process. Ouch!
Here's a quick clip from Trevor Montgomery of a nasty turtle following his bait on the eight:
And here's an action shot from Steve Nosbisch. Guessing he wasn't "burning" his bucktail fast enough. 😂
Cool shot, but that's a little too close for comfort if you're askin' me!
This Week's Mashup:
Mashup time!
#1 – Big news! It's northern Wisconsin musky opener this weekend 🎉
To say this a "notable" opener would be a dramatic understatement.
Best of luck to all our Wisconsinite buddies on the water this week. I hope you kick your season off with a bruiser!
#2 – One of our absolute favorite tournaments of the year is happening in TWO weeks. Do some scouting the opening week of the MN musky season, then try your luck against some great Twin Cities musky sticks on June 8th.
#3 – Freaking love this little 11" musky carving sent in by Charles Weiss. 😂 🔥
#4 – Remember when the entire dang country had northern lights and social media was plunk-full of photos?? Well, this one sent in by Bill Buchholz is our favorite. Anyone else see the musky lurking in the lights??

THIS WEEK'S MONSTER MUSKIES:
This absolute brute of a Tennessee 'skie (50.75x27) smoked Cody Daniels' Fat Bastard topwater. She's the heaviest musky Cody has put in the boat so far, and would have at least flirted with the state record if he would have kept 💪
Btw, Cody is going to be one of our Musky Insider PRO instructors this year – we're excited to hear more from him!
Props to Tyler Babinchok on catchin' this grimy river 'skie from shore in the great state of Pennsylvania.
Check out this incidental 'skie caught by Matt Liebel while fishing an AIM walleye derby. When you're a walleye angler, you know this is the most excitement you're gonna have all season! 😉
